Coin Issue Pakistan Rs 50 in memory of Edhi
Abdul Satar
State Bank of Islamabad Pakistan on Saturday announced to issue a 50 rupee commemorative coin to pay tribute to humanitarian services of celebrated social worker ( Edhi) Abdul Sattar. According to local media reports, a ceremony – attended by State Bank Governor Ashraf Mahmood Wathra among others - was conducted by the bank to honour the late philanthropist and social worker. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had directed the State Bank of Pakistan to issue a commemorative coin in honour of the revered humanitarian and philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, who died on July 8 in Karachi. Edhi was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2013 but had been unable to get a transplant due to frail health. He was receiving treatment at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT). In June, Edhi had declined former president Asif Ali Zardari’s offer to travel abroad for medical treatment, saying he preferred to receive treatment in Pakistan. The legendary humanitarian had in the past declined Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s offer to donate 10 million Indian rupees to his charity after the safe return of Geeta, an Indian girl who was stranded in Pakistan and was raised by the Edhi Foundation.
